Josh Cain is filling in for Studio City Local Editor Mike Szymanski, who is taking a much-deserved vacation.

Bio

I have spent most of my life in North Orange County, growing up in Anaheim and Brea. When I was 13 years old I knew I wanted to become a writer. Once I found out I could combine my love for writing with my passion for sports—I root for the Lakers, Angels and USC football—I never looked back.

Though I'll always call Orange County home, growing up in what amounts to one big suburb made me want to get as far away as possible for college. I spent three-and-a-half years at Boston University earning a degree in journalism in between covering sports and news for The Daily Free Press, the school's independent newspaper. There, I worked as managing editor and editor-in-chief in my junior year, covered the governor's race and tumultuous Boston city council meetings, and occasionally slept.

Politics

I was raised in a household where my mother was a hard-core liberal and my father liked to call himself a Libertarian. Once I finally got to register with a party when I turned 18, my parents' political leanings made the decision easy for me: to annoy both of them, I registered Independent.

That turned out to be a mistake, however, considering I accidentally registered with the American Independent Party, rather than choosing "Decline to State." Four years and dozens of Sodom-and-Gomorrah-inspired campaign pamphlets I received in the mail later, I've now given up pretending that my political decisions don't trend toward the left side of the spectrum. However, I still pride myself on looking at what all sides have to offer.
