About Ashley

A Los Angeles native, Ashley is a freelance journalist for various Los Angeles newspapers and magazines both in print and online.

Ashley has worked pro bono as the media relations coordinator for the Amagezi Gemaanyi Youth Association, a Kampala, Uganda-based nonprofit providing outreach and enrichment for disadvantaged youth, since July 2010. She has secured newspaper coverage for and spread awareness of AGYA, and has expanded its social media presence.

Looking to further her public relations experience, Ashley joined the Los Angeles office of CRT/tanaka in November 2010. As an Account Coordinator, she supported consumer and corporate practice accounts including Air New Zealand, Altria, Avocados from Mexico, , Charles Schwab, Duda Farm Fresh Foods, Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers and Marketo.

Ashley relocated halfway around the world in January 2009 to Sydney, Australia. She earned her Master of Media Practice with Merit from the University of Sydney in April 2010, having maintained a Distinction average throughout her course. She furthered her studies in online media, magazine production, media relations and narrative journalism while gaining an international perspective.

While in Sydney, Ashley worked with Australian nonprofit Cancer Council New South Wales to implement a targeted media relations campaign promoting its SunSmart Primary Schools Program in the Northern Sydney and Central Coast regions. Her efforts led to increased and continued coverage of CCNSW’s campaigns in print and online media.

Before beginning her Australian adventure, Ashley conducted public relations for Pasadena City College, where she wrote and edited external and internal communications. The Campus Report newsletter she produced received second place honors at the 2009 Community College Public Relations Organization Awards.

A graduate of the Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism at the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts in Print Journalism, Ashley served three times as sports editor of the Summer Trojan, and reported various beats for the Daily Trojan throughout her USC career. Despite belonging to the Trojan Family, she possesses an irrational love of Penn State football, and didn’t care who won the 2009 Rose Bowl.

Ashley is still seeking freelance opportunities in Los Angeles or any major capital city in Australia.
