See highlights and interviews with Coach Jon Palarz, Jeremy Lieberman, Joshua Cohan and Spencer Levy after the Coyotes' 69-39 victory over South Torrance.

Calabasas High first opened its doors in 1975, but it wasn’t until Thursday night at the Anaheim Convention Center when the school hoisted up its first ever CIF boys basketball championship. “This is absolutely incredible,” said senior Spencer Levy. “We’ve always dreamed about this since we were little kids.” Calabasas (27-3) defeated South Torrance 69-39 for the Div. 3AA title. “I think (the team) executed the gameplan flawlessly,” said Coach Jon Palarz. “We defended well, and we then got the rebounds. We won the boards 45-32. It’s what you pray for as a coach.” The Coyotes jumped out to a quick 27-2 start and never looked back. “I think it all started on defense, and then we just executed on the other end,” said Jeremy Lieberman, who …

Sharpshooter Makes Seven 3-pointers in First Half

Coyote Megan Charles scores 28 points in the biggest came of her high school career.

Calabasas High School's Megan Charles put on a stellar performance on Jan. 27 in a game against Agoura High School, making seven 3-pointers in the first half alone. Despite the Coyotes' 70-49 loss, the junior shooting guard scored 28 points and was mentioned on NBC 4 news for her sharpshooting. "I started hitting the first couple, but then I was just open, nobody played defense so I kept shooting and they all kept going in," Charles said. Charles, who wants to play college ball someday, said a recent injury that sidelined her limited her practices to mainly shooting around. "I've just been perfecting my shot for the past three or four months," she said. The Coyotes are 7-20 so far this season.

Not Lonely at Top: Calabasas Hoops Among 3 Tied for First in Marmonte

With three weeks remaining in the basketball season, Calabasas High looks to pull away from the pack.

There is a logjam at the top of the Marmonte League boys basketball standings, with three teams tied for first heading into the final three-week stretch of the regular season. The good news is Calabasas (16-3, 6-1) is among the leaders, along with Westlake (17-5, 6-1) and Royal (14-5, 6-1). The Coyotes, coming off a 78-46 win Friday over Thousand Oaks, have a light schedule this week because of final exams, as the team has six days off before resuming this coming Friday at Simi Valley. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m. “We had a great practice Saturday. We’re all in a great frame of mind,” guard Spencer Levy said. “After that win over Thousand Oaks, I feel like we’re playing at our highest potential. We keep getting better.” Simi Valley (10-9, 3-4) is …
