A spokesman for the Smith family says the search could not be narrowed down to a specific area to comb. "After consultations between the L.A. The driver escapes injury, but her car ends up damaged in the early morning shooting.
A PT Cruiser heading eastbound on the 101 Freeway near Calabasas was shot at early Thursday morning, according to the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station. The car was between the Las Virgenes Road and Calabasas Road exits around 4:30 a.m. when the driver, a woman who was the only person in the vehicle, thought she heard one of her tires blow, said Lt. Todd Weber. When she exited the freeway near the 24100 block of Calabasas Road, she noticed a bullet hole in her front passenger door, Weber said. Responding deputies recovered what appeared to be an "expended bullet projectile from the passenger compartment of the car," a statement from the sheriff's station read. Twentieth Century Fox distribution executive and father of three Gavin Smith mysteriously disappeared 10 days ago. The 57-year-old, a former UCLA basketball player who works out of a Calabasas office, hasn't been since the evening hours of May 1, when he left a friend's Oak Park home in a black Mercedes. Smith's family knew something was wrong when he did not pick up one of his son's from school the following day. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has intensified its search in the past week and a half. Authorities say there still is no suspicion of foul play. Two people are hospitalized in a two-car collision Wednesday afternoon.
One critically injured person was airlifted to a hospital Wednesday and another patient was transported by ambulance following a collision on the eastbound Ventura (101) Freeway at Las Virgenes Road in Calabasas, according to a county fire dispatcher. The crash was reported at 4 p.m. and has resulted in a Sigalert, with four lanes blocked. All lanes were reopened by 5:40, according to Officer Tatiana Sauquillo of the California Highway Patrol. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, she said.

The search for missing 20th Century Fox distribution executive and former UCLA basketball player Gavin Smith intensified today, as the sheriff's department added new resources to the probe. " The new development is that our department has added new resources to the search for this missing man,'' sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore told City News Service. "I am not going to detail exactly what those resources are, but part of it was adding more detectives to the search.'' The Los Angeles County DUI Task Force and the California Highway Patrol will be out in force throughout LA County for the Cinco De Mayo weekend. The extra patrols started at 6 p.m. Friday and will continue through Sunday, according to an advisory message sent out by the LA County Sheriff's Department. “Saving lives, reducing injuries, traffic collisions and property damage is important work,” said Sheriff Lee Baca. "Every life is a life worth saving and we will do our utmost to help keep the public safe." The CHP will also be out on freeways and in unincorporated county jurisdictions to stop, test and arrest impaired drivers. Gavin Smith, a distribution executive for 20th Century Fox, has been missing since Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Smith was last seen Tuesday at a friend's house in Oak Park between 9-10 p.m., according to the sheriff's department. He left in a black 2000 Mercedes 420E that has padded storage racks on the roof and tinted windows. He hasn't been heard from since. His license plate number is 6EKT044. Had she lived, Mitrice Richardson would be turning 27 on April 30. However, the remains of the the young woman were discovered Aug. 12, 2010, 11 months after she was questionably released from the custody of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station around 1 a.m. on Sept. 17 2009 and was never seen alive again. She was arrested at Geoffrey's restaurant in Malibu on the night of Sept. 16, 2009 after failing to pay her $89 dinner bill because she didn't have enough money. Though she was reportedly behaving strangely and appeared incoherent, she was released from the Malibu/Lost Hills station without her car, which had been impounded, or a cell phone or purse. A safe containing cash is stolen from a storage locker; a burglar steals more than 50 pieces of jewelry.
Safe and cash stolen from Public Storage A burglar stole $15,000 in cash from a Public Storage unit on Ventura Boulevard, according to Malibu/Lost Hills sheriff's deputies. On April 15, the victim found a different lock on his unit's door. Upon gaining entry, the victim noticed his 1-ton Melnick safe containing $15,000 in $100 bills was missing, deputies said. The last time the victim visited his storage locker prior to the burglary was on April 13, a deputy's report read. The victim said the only way the safe could have been removed was if the thief used a dolly and a fork lift.
