The baseball coach says he's leaving to tend to family matters.

Edsall made the announcement to the Coyotes at the team's 5-2 victory and season closer against Thousand Oaks on Wednesday, according to the Times. In an e-mail to the newspaper, Edsall said his wife is about to give birth and that he would be devoting more time to family matters. The Coyotes finished the 2012 season with an 8-19 record.

Decadent S'more Brownies

Here's gooey, chocolatey recipe to satisfy your sweet tooth.

There is no darker place than the mind of a chocolate mad teenager. So deep is my daughter's love of chocolate that she can tell the difference in taste and texture of nearly every market-variety brand chocolate and quite a few artisan offerings. Many a time I've brought home a treat and I've been told that it had the wrong cacoa percentage. Really? Is your palette that sophisticated? Well, apparently it is. One of the things that I strive to achieve as a parent is a little culinary independence. I have always encouraged my kids to experiment in the kitchen and make some of their own creations. My daughter is turning into quite a baker because of her deep seeded love of chocolate. Last week was no exception. I brought home a perfectly good…

What's Playing at the Edwards?

Review: 'Dark Shadows'

It's fun and games with the "un-dead" and Johnny Depp.

Anyone remember “camp’? No, not summer camp or camping out in Yellowstone: good old-fashioned, over-the-top, no-holds barred “camp” as in...well, as in Tim Burton’s latest assault on our visual senses, Dark Shadows. The late Susan Sontag wrote in her essay “Notes on Camp” that the style’s trademarks were “artifice, frivolity, naive middle-class pretentiousness, and ‘shocking’ excess.” All the preceding and more can be applied in spades to Dark Shadows. I have not seen a single episode of the famed (aka infamous) daytime TV soap opera that fueled the inspiration for this inglorious mess, and whether that counts as a plus or minus depends on your tolerance for such fare.  I came with a blank slate, mixed expectations after somewhat tepid …

Calabasas Attorney Among Superior Court Appointees

David Walgren helped prosecute Dr. Conrad Murray for the 2009 wrongful death of singer Michael Jackson.

Eight people, including the deputy district attorney who led the prosecution of the late singer Michael Jackson's personal physician, were appointed by the governor Friday as Los Angeles Superior Court judges. All of Gov. Jerry Brown's appointees are Democrats. Among the appointees is 43-year-old Deputy District Attorney David Walgren, who was on the team that prosecuted Dr. Conrad Murray for administering what turned out to be a fatal cocktail of drugs -- most notably the powerful anesthetic propofol -- to Jackson in 2009. Walgren, a Calabasas resident, has been with the District Attorney's Office since 1996. The other appointees are: -- Debra A. Cole, 50, of Long Beach, who has been with the Los Angeles County Alternative Public Defender…

Congrats to Mr Walgren, who conducted the case against the quack Murray egregiously (thank you Mr Walgren very much). He will be a fair judge also.   more ›

How to View Sunday's 'Ring of Fire' Solar Eclipse

On Sunday, California will experience a rare solar eclipse for the first time in 18 years.

Supermoon is SO yesterday. We are in for another extraterrestrial event this weekend: a rare "ring of fire" solar eclipse that hasn't been seen in the United States since 1994, reports the Huffington Post. Called an annular solar eclipse, the moon and sun will align exactly on Sunday, May 20, creating a "ring of fire" around the moon because of the sun's larger apparent size, said the website. Although the best views of the full "ring of fire" eclipse will be from Northern California, those of us here in Agoura will still be able to view a celestial display. The Griffith Observatory notes for LA, the moon will eclipse 86 percent of the sun's diameter, which will be the most "extensive" eclipse the city has seen since 1992, said the Post. …
