Samouhi Siblings Train for Calabasas Classic

Two local youngsters will run for a cause in November.

They may a long ways away from high school, but that's not stopping 7-year-old Chloe Samouhi and her 5-year-old brother Elie from running some laps around track.

The siblings are gearing up for the annual Calabasas Classic charity run on Nov. 11, a fundraiser organized by the Talbert Family Foundation to aid local cancer patients and their families.

Chloe and Elie became especially inspired to participate after meeting Kevin Cordasco, a Calabasas High sophomore who's battling neuroblastoma, at a Talbert at the local in June.

"They met Kevin there which made it especially meaningful and had a tremendous impact on them," said mother Liat Samouhi, who's also training for the run. "When you participate as an individual and family in such a positive and powerful experience, it is natural to want to continue to be part of that movement and spirit of giving back to the community."

The brother and sister also train on local trails, Liat Samouhi said.

Chloe has signed up for the Calabasas Classic's 5K run, while Elie will participate in the 1-mile family run.

Registration is still open for the event.
