Let's Hike Calabasas!

"If you can walk, you can hike," so said the Calabasas Day Hikers during a noontime presentation Thursday at the .

Over 30 experienced and armchair hikers showed up to ask questions about local hiking trails and to listen to tips from the experts.

Most hiking trails around Calabasas can be hiked by both beginners and experienced hikers, said the group.

The Millennium Trail is one such example. The mostly single track trail can be stretched up to 12 miles or shortened to four miles, depending on the hiker's skill and fitness level.

With multiple start points, among them Bark Park and the Mobil station off of Las Virgenes Road, this trail is relatively unknown but with breath-taking views.

The Calabasas Peak, off of Stunt Road, is another local treasure. Suitable for all types of hikers as well, this trail is mostly single track and fire road. A rock formation with embedded fossils makes this trail a group favorite.

Fairly easy, the Talepop Trail at Juan De Anza Park, is another trail worth trying. The 4.1-mile stretch features some squash in bloom this time of the year, as well as a picturesque view from a small bridge.

"You'll never run out of trails around here," the group said, adding that the is right in the middle of some great hiking.

To get started and before venturing out on a hike, the Calabasas Day Hikers suggest carrying the following essentials:

• first aid kit
• sunscreen
• hat
• food
• water
• mirror
• whistle
• flashlight
• map or a GPS
