Two Viewpoint Players Make All-CIF Teams

Spague earns spot on Division 6 baseball team, Berka selected to Division 6 softball team.

Two players from Viewpoint High School earned spots on the All-CIF baseball and softball teams.

Sophomore third baseman Tyler Sprague made the Division 6 first team. Senior Blair Berka made the Division 6 second team as a utility player.

Sprague led his team in hits with 33, RBIs with 35 and doubles with eight. His .465 batting average was second best on Viewpoint.

"Everything clicked in," said Viewpoint baseball coach Frank Pontello. "In his freshman year, he seemed to have all the pieces. The first time I saw him in the cages, I could see the extra power, the extra confidence. I'm so proud for him and excited for the future."

Sprague also scored 28 runs, tied for the team lead, and had three triples.

Viewpoint finished with a 16-7 record and was the Liberty League co-champions with a 7-1 record.

Viewpoint lost to Crossroads, 5-1, in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 6 playoffs.

Berka led Viewpoint with 22 hits and 20 RBIs in 19 games. She hit .365, scored 16 runs and had two doubles.

As a pitcher, she was 6-4 with a 0.97 ERA. She struck out 106 batters in 64 2/3 innings and pitched seven complete games.

Viewpoint was 10-9-1 overall and finished in a tie for second place in the Liberty League with an 8-2 record.

Viewpoint lost to St. Monica, 5-4, in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 6 playoffs.
