Summer Camps Still Available for Kids

It's not too late to sign your children up for visually and physically stimulating summer camps.

Are you wondering what else is out there to stimulate your restless youngsters during the remaining five weeks of summer break? still has a bunch of ongoing and upcoming summer camps.

Ongoing camps

Sports N' More Summer Camp is a summer-long program that runs on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Aug. 19. “Our biggest and longest running camp is a sports enthusiast’s dream camp,” said Brandon Ferguson, recreation coordinator.

There’s dodge ball, badminton, rock climbing, inflatable water slides and  other sports and games to challenge active, young bodies. There is a basketball clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays for children who want to work on their basketball skills. Sports N' More costs $55 a day or $245 a week.

There are half-day and full day options for this camp, Ferguson said. “It is not uncommon for parents to sign their children up for half-day of Sports N More, and then do a specialty camp in the morning or afternoon,” he said.

Rock-climbing camp for 6- to 12-year-olds is ongoing this week, but enrollment is full, Ferguson said. “However, we will be offering it again the week of Aug. 15 to 19 so sign up now,” he said of the course, which costs $75.

Upcoming camps

Two exciting camps are set to debut the week of July 25: Rock and Roll High and Art Studio Camp.

Do you have budding musicians? At Rock and Roll High, campers can form a band, make a music video, conduct a photo shoot, learn songs and perform live. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., July 25 to 29. Course is $350.

For the more visually oriented youngsters, there’s Art Studio Camp. These youngsters will dabble in robot creation, sculptures and self-portraits from noon to 3 p.m. on July 25 to 29. Cost is $120. Imagination is the limit to this camp.

Rounding up the summer are specialty camps in August such as Shake It-Up Dance Camp, a chance for youngsters to show off and put their dance moves to good use. The course runs from noon to 3 p.m. for four days beginning Aug. 1. Cost is $120.

For science enthusiasts, Marine Biology Camp may be the perfect fit. Campers will learn about marine life by dissecting a shark, hold a starfish and look inside a clam shell. Next session begins on Aug. 8 from 9 a.m. to noon. Course costs $120.

If crazy science experiments are more up your children’s alley, there’s Crazy Chemistry. This camp is for those who love to watch things fizz, foam and bubble. Course runs from Aug. 8-12 from noon to 3 p.m. Cost is $120.

Are they almost ready for school, but haven’t had enough Harry Potter mania yet? Send your wizards on the Hogwarts Express en route to Harry Potter Camp for more “potions, herbology, magical creatures and transfiguration.” Next session runs from Aug. 15-19 from noon to 3 p.m. Cost is $120.

To cap off the summer break and right around school opening, there's Advantage Basketball Camp for kids ages six to 18. The intense basketball camp will feature a ball handling and shooting camp from 9 a.m. to 5 a.m. every day during the week of Aug. 22. "It attracts serious basketball players even from other countries," said Ferguson. Prices vary.

Something for everyone

“We have a lot of flexible payment options to accommodate different needs,” said Ferguson. “Parents can pay by day, by week or all at once.”

In addition, parents can purchase a frequent visitor card for camps such as Sports N' More. “For that, they can buy 10 days of camp and get one free,” he said.
