Calabasas' Baseball Team Keeps Plugging Away

Calabasas sports: It's been a tough year, but shortstop Alex Rubanowitz says the Coyotes have a good attitude.

After losing seven of eight games, baseball team is coming off a 7-5 win Wednesday over La Salle, and the victory could not have come at a better time for a Coyote squad that’s 7-14 and eager for as much success as possible.

“Any win is a very good win for our team,” said shortstop Alex Rubanowitz, who’s three-run triple against La Salle keyed a six-run fourth-inning rally. “We’re still practicing hard, and our goal is to go 5-0 over the last five games of the season, and I think it’s very do-able.

“It’s going to be tough playing Simi Valley, the No. 1 team in the Marmonte, and Chatsworth, the No. 1 team in the City Section, but we’re not going to back down. We’re going to fight, and we’re going to win.”

Justyn Lee, a junior pitcher, was impressive against La Salle, pitching five strong innings and getting the win in his first career start, and center fielder Josh Ehrlich made some nice catches.

“That was good. He was throwing strikes and trusting our defense, and we were making the plays,” Rubanowitz said. “Josh tracked down everything. It was a good all-around team victory.”
