Round Meadow Elementary Gets New Principal

Educator Jeremy Resnick will leave his post as assistant principal at Agoura High School.

Jeremy Resnick, assistant principal of Agoura High School, was recently tapped as the new principal of in Hidden Hills.

Supt. Donald Zimring will recommend Resnick for the job to the board of education at a meeting next Tuesday.

“I’m very excited to be a part of the community,” said Resnick who will be starting his new position in summer. “I’ve had a great experience at Agoura High School, but I’m happy to get back to my roots in education at the elementary level.”

A Conejo Valley native, Resnick has 10 years worth of experiences working with elementary school students, ranging from private camps to local park and recreational programs, according to an LVUSD press release.

After earning his single-subject teaching credential and masters degree in dducation from Pepperdine University, he taught for four years at the Conejo Valley Unified School District.

He later moved to Texas, where he taught English in a Dallas suburb with students ranging from gifted and talented, to mainstreamed special education students. While in Texas, he acquired his principal certification from Sam Houston State University.

Resnick moved back to Southern California three years ago and took an assistant principal job at Agoura High.

“The biggest goal for a school like Round Meadow is to maintain its tradition of academic excellence and the wonderful enrichment activities that are offered to students,” said Resnick. “My goal in the first year is to learn how the school works, learn why it works—because obviously it does—and to maintain and build on that.”

In a press statement, Zimring said the school district was delighted to have Resnick in his new educational leadership position.

“His background, experiences, and skills will be a terrific benefit to the students, staff and parents of Round Meadow Elementary School,” Zimring wrote.

Resnick said he hopes to make sure students at Round Meadow get the kind of enrichment and opportunities that will help them reach their full potential.  

“I’m also very well aware of how our special education students perform, and one of my aims is to ensure that there is enough focus on them," he said. "We will be looking for early signs of struggle, and give them students the skills and support they need to succeed without them having to necessarily fail first.” 

Resnick will also be looking at ways to make the school’s API scores climb, and to focus more on areas like arts, math and the sciences. He hopes the effects of the state budget cuts will be minimal on the school and its students.

Incidentally, parents and staff at the school recently conducted , and the water district pitched in by the fourth and fifth grade science programs.

“While [budget cuts] certainly an area of concern, the parents of our district, and specifically the parents of Round Meadow, are doing everything in their power to help them mitigate that," he said. "There are plans in place at both the district and campus levels that will help minimize whatever shortcomings there might be from the state budget crisis. . . . In whatever way it does trickle down to Round Meadow, my number one goal is to make sure students are shielded from it.”

Current Round Meadow Principal Tom Spence is leaving for a teaching job in Columbia, according to the school district.
