Raytheon Hosts a Myriad of Middle and Elementary Schoolers for Engineer Week

Southland students get an introduction to engineering on Monday.

EL SEGUNDO--Defense contractor and aerospace corporation Raytheon hosted more than 200 students from various middle and elementary schools for the start of engineer week on Monday.

Students from schools in Manhattan Beach, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Calabasas, Culver City, and others were given interactive demonstrations by Raytheon engineers at the company’s space and airborne systems facility in El Segundo. 

The event also featured a math competition where students were given the chance to compete for a commemorative Raytheon medallion.

"Those problems were just mental math so you can just do it in your head without going through a problem," said Jake Levin, a student at in Calabasas.

Raytheon will host a similar event for high school students on Wednesday and college students on Friday.
