The Help Group's Advance LA Transition Conference

Advance LA, an innovative program of The Help Group, provides individualized support services including one-on-one life skills coaching and workshops for teens and young adults with unique challenges in their transition to independence.

 

Advance LA is pleased to present its first annual conference for parents and professionals, “Prep. Launch Elevate: Supporting Teens & Young Adults in their Transition to Independence”. The conference will feature 22 experts presenting cutting-edge information in their respective fields. The sessions will focus on the needs of young people with autism, Asperger’s disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), executive functioning difficulties, learning disabilities, mental health issues including dual diagnosis and substance abuse recovery. Practical solutions for a successful transition to work, college, and independent living will be addressed. The Advance LA Conference is open to parents, educators, clinicians, researchers, graduate and undergraduate students and will provide attendees with eight continuing education credits.

 

 

Key featured speakers and their topics include Richard Guare, Ph.D., D-BCBA "Executive Skills in Adolescents and Young Adults: Strategies for Assessment and Intervention," Elisha Goldstein, Ph.D., "Mindfulness and Stress Reduction During the Transition Process,” Peter Gerhardt, Ed.D, BCBA "Evidence Based Practices and Quality of Life for Young Adults with Autism" and panel moderator Sarita Freedman, Ph.D., “What You Need to Know: Identifying and Accessing Resources on a College Campus.”
