Coyotes Move On: CHS Graduation 2010

Seniors get their diplomas Wednesday and bid a fond farewell to their teachers and school.

Calabasas High seniors stepped onto their school's football field for the last time as students Wednesday with the moment they would be dubbed graduates about an hour away.

Families of the 528 students of the class of 2010 watched with pride from the bleachers.

"You want everything bigger and better and you're passionate to get it ... you want the best and you've worked really hard to get it," Principal CJ Foss told the graduating class.

Las Virgenes Unified School District Board of Education member Jill Gaines, who has a daughter in the graduating class, also spoke to the seniors and congratulated them on their achievements.

"Ninety-eight percent of the Calabasas High class of 2010 is going to college," Gaines said.

She said students were accepted at all the Ivy League schools, and 75 graduates are heading to UCs.

The graduating class featured 28 valedictorians and 18 salutatorians.

A number of students gave speeches before diplomas were handed out, including seinor class president Taylor Wilson.

Although college awaits, it's still difficult to tell what the future could bring, Wilson said.

"The first part of our journey, 18 years so lovingly and carefully mapped out for us, has come to a close," she said.

But that doesn't bother her.

"I'm not thinking about uncertainty, I'm thinking about possibilities," she said. "The endless possibilities of what we could become. This is the first day of the rest of our lives."
