Clifton and Oliver Lead Attleboro to 7th Win

The Bombardiers defeat King Philip 52-33.

The Attleboro High School girls varsity basketball team got off to a slow start Tuesday against King Philip, trailing 10-7 at the end of the first quarter and 22-21 at halftime.

KP came out strong in the second half, scoring the first four points and out-rebounding the Bombardiers 6-1 by 5:59 of that quarter. This was followed by Makaila Lombardy hitting a two-point basket, cutting the KP lead to three. Beth Clifton followed with a steal and a score to cut the margin to one point. With the teams exchanging baskets, Clifton hit on two free throws, knotting the score at 30-30.

It was then that Attleboro shifted gears and began to play its type of basketball. Kirsten Terrien put the Bombardiers ahead 32-30 on two free throws. Clifton followed with two more from the charity stripe and Kim Runey hit from behind the arc, giving Attleboro a 37-30 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Attleboro opened the final eight minutes of play scoring the next 12 points with baskets by Terrien, Abby Oliver, Bri LaPlume and Clifton (six points in that timeframe).

The Bombardiers' defense held KP to just three points (all free throws) in the fourth quarter and the girls in blue secured the 52-33 victory.

Clifton led all scorers with 22 points and nine rebounds. Oliver was the floor general and handed out six assists. Runey contributed nine points and six rebounds, and freshman Emily Houle was a strong presence down under, pulling in nine rebounds. LaPlume chipped in with eight rebounds and Kerri Beland had seven rebounds.

The Bombardiers' record is 7-2 and they will host Taunton on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

The Attleboro JV team was on the short end of a 38-37 score. Cassie Vivar hit for 13 points and Karissa Hand scored 10. The team's record is 4-5.

The freshmen came home with a 34-24 victory, led by Maddie
Turner and Rose Davies each scoring 14. Their record is 5-3.
