L.A.'s Food Truck Scene Hits Calabasas High

Celebrating the food truck revolution that has swept Los Angeles, the Calabasas High fundraiser CHOMP featured gourmet food and live entertainment.

The food truck fundraising event CHOMP returned to Calabasas High on Saturday, bringing more than half a dozen gourmet food trucks, live entertainment, shopping boutiques and a large crowd, despite worries of rain.

Skies remained dry for the celebration, though a large temperature-controlled tent was brought to house students, families and other community members who had come to sample an eclectic assortment of food truck fare, including soul food, lobster, cupcakes and crepes.

“This year we brought in more professional equipment and opened it up to the student body for their own clubs,” said Josh Levin, student body president. “We did our best to market it to the community rather than just the school so that everyone could come in, have fun and get a bite to eat.”

In addition to numerous clubs and organizations raising money for good causes, the event also featured DJs and musical performances by several bands, including crowd favorite, The Mowglis, a rock group made up of some former Calabasas High students.

“Everyone seems to be having a good time,” said Aidan Wahl, senior class historian.

According to Wahl, the idea for the food truck event came from last year’s student body and this year, the group made some changes, such as bringing in everything closer together to promote community-togetherness.

“We decided to take it, put our own spin on it and improve it,” said Levin

The next CHOMP is planned for early next year, possibly around St. Patrick’s Day, said Wahl. Proceeds from the event will go toward benefiting Calabasas High.
