Bay Laurel Students Chalk It Up

Elementary school students put their own spin on some classic paintings.

Chalk was the medium of choice for students on Friday as they colored pavement replicas of classic artwork in honor of California Arts Day.

Earlier in the day, teachers and parents stenciled replicas of works from the likes of Picasso, Monet and Rembrandt on the ground in the school's quad area.

During recess and lunch time, kids got to fill in the drawings with colored chalk and either tried to mimic the hues of the original artwork or picked their own shades.
