Voting 'Pretty Steady' in Calabasas [Video]

The local polling places are reporting a good turn-out since 7 a.m.

Polling places throughout Calabasas are reporting a steady flow of voters since early Tuesday morning.

"I'm very impressed with the turn-out," said Jackie Marenstein, a volunteer at the Juan Bautista de Anza Park polling place. "We got our first voter within the first half hour, and it's been pretty steady since then."

The DeAnza volunteers reported 30 voters before 12 noon.

Volunteer Darlene Heusser told Patch she is not surprised by the community input. "There seems to be an active contest and a difference of opinion in Calabasas, so I think people are taking a good interest," she said.

Commissioner Ellen Pangarliotas, one of the founding members of the City, and her husband Michael said they came out to show their civic support.

When asked about some of the difference of opinion arising during the elections, Michael referred to a mailer they received, "It was a hit piece on one of the candidates in Saturday's mail, kind of ugly. We didn't appreciate that ... For a nice, quiet community, it's kind of suprising."

Over at the Lupin Hill Elementary polling place, volunteers also report brisk voting.

"We're doing pretty well for what's on the ballot," said Dell Pike, a polling inspector.

Caroline Abdulhamid, who works at the school, said she hopes everyone turns out to vote.

"It's important. It's about our city, and this directly affects us," she said.

Volunteers at the Calabasas Tennis & Swim Center polling place is also reporting a good flow.

"We've had over 50 voters before lunch," said volunteer Wayne Yokum. "I can remember our worst election, only 19 people showed up."
