The Los Angeles City Council approved a plan Thursday to offer free Wi-Fi at Los Angeles International Airport beginning in mid-July.
Though concerns were raised that the contractor that will install and run the service was hired inappropriately, the council voted 11-1 in favor of hiring Florida-based Advanced Wireless Group (AWG) LLC without entertaining bids from other wireless Internet providers.
The council also requested an audit of how airport officials selected AWG, which operates Wi-Fi service at airports in Miami, Boston and soon, San Francisco.
