Car Burglaries, Shoplifting Top Quarterly Crime Report

Deputies arrest 122 adults and 11 juveniles between April and June.

Car burglaries and shoplifting were the chief crimes committed in Calabasas between April and June, according to statistics presented at the Public Safety Commission’s quarterly meeting on Monday.

There were 122 adult arrests and 11 juvenile arrests made during the three-month time frame, said Dep. Robert DeSantis of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station in his presentation to the commission.

The most notable incidents in April included the booking of three Camarillo on suspicion of committing vehicle burglaries in the Meadow Creek and Lupin Lane areas, DeSantis said. The alleged stolen items from the unlocked parked vehicles were recovered inside the suspects’ car.

Two burglaries were reported in the 22000 block of Mulholland Highway. In both incidents, the suspects entered a store, hid stolen merchandise on their person and left without paying.

In May, officers arrested a person actively involved in vehicle burglaries in Calabasas, Agoura Hills, Northridge and Pacific Palisades. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's office filed felony charges.

In June, a resident of West Hills was arrested on suspicion of committing burglary at the . The suspect, an employee at the shopping center, had made fraudulent item returns.

There were 36 traffic collisions, nine of which involved injuries and 27 were property damage only, that occurred on the 101 Freeway from May to June, said California Highway Patrol Officer Joseph Saunders in his report to the commission.

There were five DUI related collisions, he added.

“Over half of these traffic collisions were a direct result of speeding and DUI,” said Officer Saunders. “We encourage the city of Calabasas to slow down, wear your seat belt properly and designate a sober driver.”
