Suspected Jewelry Thief Arrested in Calabasas

An unnamed suspect is allegedly caught in the act in the 5300 block of Ambridge Drive.

A suspected jewelry thief who tried to break into a Calabasas home was behind bars today, sheriff's deputies in Malibu said.

The suspect, a resident of Calabasas whose name was being withheld, was arrested about 2:55 p.m. Saturday when a deputy responded to a 911 call regarding a "possible burglary in progress" at a residence in the 5300 block of Ambridge Drive, according to a deputy's statement.

The deputy observed a male wearing dark clothing and armed with a knife walking out of the side door of the garage at the location, the statement read.

The deputy drew his weapon and the suspect surrendered without incident, according to the release.

Detectives determine the man tried to pry open a door with a knife. A search of the suspect's home turned up items believed to have been stolen, including five pairs of earrings, four men's rings, two necklaces and a set of earrings and matching ring.

The suspect was booked on suspicion of burglary and is being lieu of a $120,000 bail.

Anyone else in the area who may have been burglarized, or anyone with more information about the suspect arrested, was asked to call deputies at the Malibu Station at 818-878-1808.
