Sidewalk Vandalized With Racial Slur; Purse Stolen at Taco Bell

Pedestrian on Bon Homme Drive makes a disturbing discovery; customer's purse disappears at local fast food chain.

Neighborhood sidewalk vandalized with racial slur

A vandal etched a racial slur and an image of male genitalia into a slab of cement sidewalk in the 4100 block of Bon Homme Drive, deputies said.

The vandalism was discovered on May 10 around 9 a.m. by a passerby, who reported it to a city code enforcement officer.

Deputies said the markings were an eighth of an inch to a quarter inch deep. In addition, the code enforcement officer said the markings could have been made two months ago, shortly after the cement was poured and was wet.

A request has been put in to a contractor to remove the markings, said Public Works Director Robert Yalda.

Purse stolen at Taco Bell

A woman’s purse was stolen from the on Las Virgenes Road on May 6, according to sheriff’s deputies.

The victim and her husband were dining at the fast food restaurant between 9:50 p.m. and when they left around 10 p.m.

About 10 minutes after leaving, the woman realized her brown leather purse with shoulder straps, valued at $30, was missing.

She returned to the Taco Bell after it had closed, but the manager let the victim and her husband in to search for the bag, which was nowhere to be seen.

The manager added that he did not see any purse nor was one handed to him as lost. The manager said there was an employee cleaning the area prior to the victim leaving and that no other patrons entered the restaurant after the victim and her husband departed.

A $20 wallet containing credit cards, which the victim canceled, and a $200 Samsung Epic cell phone were inside the purse when it was stolen, deputies said.

Smash-and-grab on Mulholland Highway

A $25 duffel bag containing a checkbook was stolen from a vehicle parked on Mulholland Highway half-a-mile west of Las Virgenes Road on Wednesday, sheriff’s deputies said.

The victim said the theft occurred sometime between 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., according to a police statement.

The burglar smashed the front passenger window to gain entry the locked two-door 2006 Honda Civic, resulting in $250 in damages to the car, deputies said.

Deputies found no witnesses to the crime.
