UPDATE: Nighttime Rescue Canceled for Missing Hiker

The woman was heard screaming for help in the brush, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

A search was called off Tuesday for a missing hiker who was heard screaming for help in the brush near Mulholland Highway.

The L.A. County Sheriff's Department received a report of a woman calling for help just after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday near Mulholland Highway about 2.3 miles north of Pacific Coast Highway above Malibu, according to the on-duty sergeant at the Lost Hills/Malibu Station.

Members of Malibu Search and Rescue donned night vision equipment and searched the area, but did not find anyone, according to David Katz, the public information officer for Malibu SAR.

"They likely made their way out prior to our arrival," Katz said over email.
