Report: Calabasas Crime Drops 5.4% in a Year

The reported dip in criminal activity in the past 12 months is an improvement from the year before, which saw an increase in local crime.

Criminal activity has dropped by 5.4 percent during the past year in Calabasas, according to a new report published by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

In the last 12 months, larceny and burglary were the most frequently reported crimes, the findings read.

In other part one crimes, two robberies, four cases of aggravated assault and six cases of grand theft auto also occurred during the past year in Calabasas, according to the report.

No murders, acts of arson or forcible rape took place in the community, the report said.

All aforementioned crime categories saw a decline, except for burglary, which experienced a 3.46 percent increase, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Neighboring Agoura Hills' burglary rate jumped 17.8 percent, while Westlake Village's saw a 7.7 percent increase

With 23,000 residents, Calabasas is the most populated community patrolled by Malibu/Lost Hills sheriff's deputies. Other cities include Malibu, Hidden Hills, Agoura Hills, Westlake Village and parts of unincorporated Los Angeles County.

Crime rates dropped in all patrolled communities except for Westlake Village, which had a 9.92 percent increase, the Sheriff's Department reported.

Overall, the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station saw an 8.5 percent decrease in crime, according to the report.
