Police Blotter: Cooking Oil and Apples

A sushi restaurant is robbed, and Mac computers are swiped this month.

Fifty-five gallons of used cooking oil were swiped from behind Banzai Sushi on July 18.

The theft occurred sometime between 6:59 a.m. and 7:18 a.m.

Though the oil is stored out back, it is not meant to be thrown away. The restaurant's owner told Malibu/Lost Hills sheriff's deputies that he uses the oil to power his personal vehicle.

Security video footage of the premises revealed that a white, crew cab, four door Ford pickup truck backed into the storage area on the morning of the theft. The truck's flatbed was carrying several storage containers.

The sole occupant was the driver, who was described as a male with light gray hair.

The vehicle's license plate number was not caught on tape.

The financial loss to Banzai Sushi: $55.

A High-Tech Score

More than $3,000 worth of electronics was stolen from a home on the 25000 block of Prado De Amor.

The burglary took place between 4:30 p.m. July 3 and 8 p.m. July 5.

Deputies noted that the property's west garage pedestrian door was forced open and similar pry marks were spotted on the north garage pedestrian door leading into the house.

Both floors of the house were ransacked and the suspect made off with a 17-inch Apple MacBook Pro, a Nintendo Wii, a Blackberry cell phone and a plastic box containing $200.

Also, a big screen television was dragged to the garage door but was ultimately left behind.

Last Month, Generators; Now, Macs

A $3,500 iMac computer and a $2,500 silver MacBook were stolen from a residence on the 22000 block of Cairloch Street on July 13.

The burglary took place between 7 p.m. and 8:40 p.m.

The suspect gained entry into the home by smashing the window of the French doors located at the rear of the house.

Both the computer and the laptop were taken from the kitchen. Other parts of the house were also ransacked.

The home is equipped with an alarm, but the victim said he was not sure whether his wife set it before leaving their home around 7 p.m.

Everything but the Kitchen Sink

A burglar with cooking on his mind entered a home on the 24000 block of Piuma Road and made off with a refrigerator, wine fridge and a microwave.

The crime occurred between noon July 12 and 4:30 p.m. July 14.

The burglar is believed to have gained entry via an unlocked sliding glass door located at the rear of the house, according to deputies.

The suspect also tried to take the stove, but failed to do so and dropped it down a flight of stairs, severely damaging the range.

Deputies also believe the burglar injured himself as drops of blood were found on the scene.

The stolen goods were valued at $5,000, as was the stove.
