Police Blotter: A String of Vehicle Burglaries

The majority of reported crimes in the last several weeks were vehicle burglaries, with each incident resulting in the theft of hundreds of dollars of valuables.

Barnes & Noble and a Burglary

About $330 in currency and $300 worth of clothing was stolen from a vehicle parked in front of Barnes & Noble at The Commons on July 31.

The vehicle burglary occurred sometime between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., according to Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's deputies.

The victim reported returning to his locked car and noticing that the driver's side window had been smashed.

The suspect removed an envelope containing money from inside the car's center console, as well as a pair of Volcom khakis and a men's Billabong button-down shirt from the backseat.

The manager of Barnes & Noble said no security cameras were observing the area in which the vehicle burglary took place.

An Itchy Car?

A vehicle in the 5700 block of Las Virgenes Road was vandalized on Aug. 1 with scratches, with some marks totaling five feet in length.

The victim said he returned to his apartment around 1:30 a.m. and was getting ready to leave later that day around 11 a.m.

That's when he found his car riddled with scratches, including one five-foot scratch. There were also four-foot scratches made to the vehicle's rear passenger door and driver's side door.

The victim told deputies that he does not have any problems with anyone in the neighborhood and that he mostly keeps to himself.

He added that vehicle vandalism has occurred before in the parking lot of his apartment building.

Cars: The Ideal Storage Spot for Valuables

A burglar made off with an Ipod Touch and a $150 Juicy Cotour wallet after breaking into a vehicle in the 5300 block of Las Virgenes Road.

The vehicle burglary occurred took place on July 24 between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

The suspect gained entry by smashing the passenger side window, deputies said.

The suspect removed a $300 Ipod Touch, $200 in U.S. currency, and the Juicy Cotour wallet, which contained several cards.

The suspect attempted to use one of the victim's ATM cards at an ATM machine around 9 p.m. to gain access to her account, but the victim had cancelled her cards by that time.

The victim also reported that the burglar could have been one of her friends who's always asking for money.

A Break In Mystery

The victim of a vehicle burglary in the 3800 block of Poppyseed Lane said all of his doors were locked prior to the break in and deputies were unable to find any signs of forced entry.

The theft occurred sometime between 12:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on July 26, according to sheriff's deputies.

The suspect made off with a $1,400 Hewlitt Packard Netbook, an 17-inch Dell laptop computer and a piece of luggage valued at $400.
