Crime: Medical Pot Stolen; Park Twice Vandalized

Medical marijuana, cash stolen

About $3,000 worth of medical marijuana belonging to a dispensary owner and $5,000 in cash were stolen Aug. 2 from a residence in the 4300 block of Willow Glen Street, deputies said.

The burglary happened sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 4:15 p.m., when the housesitter returned to the property and noticed the front door was open, a deputy’s report read.

Authorities noticed no pry marks, but did note that the deadbolt to the garage door was missing.

The homeowner told deputies over the phone that she kept five pounds of medical marijuana for her business, Van Nuys-based Balboa Caregivers, in a kitchen cabinet, deputies said. The marijuana was missing from the cabinet when deputies conducted a search, the report said.

In addition, about $5,000 in cash, which reportedly had been hidden, was also missing, according to the report.

An investigation into the burglary is ongoing.

Grape Arbor Park vandalized again

was vandalized with black spray paint for the second time in two days, deputies said.

The first occurrence happened sometime between 10 p.m. on July 27 and 8 a.m. on July 28, according to a deputy's report.

The most recent incident occurred sometime between 9 p.m. on July 28 and 7 a.m. on July 29, the report read.

According to deputies, spray-painted images included: a peace sign symbol on the basketball court floor; a person wearing a hat and holding a microphone on the door of a storage container; a woman’s nude torso, an airplane with a face and the phrase “why so serieus” on the rear of the park's entrance sign.

Deputies reported that city employees removed the graffiti shortly after it was discovered. There were no witnesses to either act of vandalism and there are no security cameras at the site.

Commercial building burglarized

More than $1,500 worth of electronics was stolen from an office in a commercial building in the 23800 block of Ventura Boulevard, according to deputies.

The theft occurred sometime between 6 p.m. on July 25 and 8 a.m. on July 26, a deputy’s report said.

A glass door on the south end of the complex was smashed to gain entry, deputies said.

Authorities noted that the doors of four office suites were pried open, but only one unit had missing items.

A $500 PlayStation 3 and a $1,200 Dell E640 laptop were taken from Suite 204, deputies said.
