Residents of a gated community in Calabasas were evacuated from their homes Monday after a gardener reported finding a grenade in a backyard, but bomb squad investigators later found the device to be a dud, police said.
The grenade was reported at 4:21 p.m. in the 24700 block of Calle Largo, said Lt. Robert Wiard of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Nearby homes were evacuated as a bomb squad was called to the scene, he said.
