High Wind, Red Flag Warnings Issued for Calabasas

Warnings to go into effect at midnight and continue through Friday afternoon, weather service says.

The National Weather Service has issued high wind and red flag warnings for Calabasas and much of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, to go into effect at midnight and continue through Friday afternoon. The NWS' website says wind speeds are expected to exceed 40 mph and gusts could reach 70 mph in the Santa Monica Mountains.

Because low humidity is also expected, the strong winds are a fire threat and present other potential dangers.

"These very strong winds will be capable of downing trees and power lines, knocking down outdoor objects, creating flying debris and causing dangerous driving conditions especially for high-profile vehicles," the NWS' website states.

The winds are expected to weaken by Friday, according to the NWS, but "the potential exists for additional rounds of gusty northeast winds over the weekend."
