Gas Station Clerk Allegedly Caught Selling Cigarettes to Minor; Garage Door Business Burglarized

Retailer arrested for alleged sale of cigarettes to minor

A clerk at the 76 gas station on Calabasas Road was arrested on March 25 for allegedly selling a pack of cigarettes to a minor, authorities said.

The minor was an underage decoy, also known as a sheriff’s explorer, employed by the , according to deputies.

The decoy entered the gas station around 5 p.m. on the day of the arrest and asked the clerk, Farokh Amirian, 62, for a pack of Marlboro Light cigarettes, a police report read.

Amirian retrieved the cigarettes from behind the counter and asked the minor for his identification, which was provided, the report read.

The ID card stated the decoy was a 16-year-old.

Amirian viewed the license for approximately one minute and then asked the minor to take off his glasses, authorities said. The minor complied. Amirian looked at the decoy once again and handed the license back to him, deputies said.

Amirian then sold the pack of cigarettes to the minor, the police report stated.

An undercover sheriff’s deputy was also at the gas station and played witness to the transaction. After the decoy left the gas station, the deputy on scene escorted Amirian to another part of the store where she was positively identified, placed under arrest and issued a citation, authorities said.

Amirian was released at the scene, because she committed a misdemeanor, without further incident, authorities said.

Wallet snatched from stroller

A $300 wallet was stolen from a purse that was placed on a baby stroller at on March 29, authorities said.

The theft occurred sometime between 11:45 a.m. and 12:15 p.m., deputies said.

The victim said there were three instances where she was standing at least 15 feet away from the stroller while shopping, according to a police report.

No video footage of the theft was recorded, according to the bookstore’s security team.

The wallet also contained $200 in U.S. currency, authorities said. The victim had canceled all of her credit cards by the time deputies arrived on scene.

Garage door business burglarized

About $200 in equipment was stolen from Mega Access Controls, which is located at 23961 Craftsman Road, according to deputies.

The burglary occurred sometime between 8:15 p.m. on March 18 and 9:15 a.m. on March 19, authorities said.

The business owner said the burglar gained entry to the store by puncturing an 18- by-18-inch hole in the front wall.

The stockroom was ransacked with items thrown on the floor, the police report read.

Among the stolen items were $200 D.V.R. garage sentry. About $500 worth of damage was dealt to the store.

The business owner said he disconnected the security alarm because it would often set off inadvertently.

High-end bicycle stolen

A $2,000 18-speed bicycle was stolen from a residence in the 4200 block of Schuylkill Drive, deputies said.

The theft occurred sometime between 11 p.m. on March 27 and 9:50 a.m. on March 28, according to authorities.

The victim said he forgot to close to the door to his garage, where the bicycle was stored, on the night of the theft.

The yellow Trek 5500 bicycle was last seen hanging upside from its tires on the west side of the garage, deputies said. The bikes serial number is WL3070871.
