Crime: Heroin Arrests at Albertsons; Wedding Rings Stolen

Two suspects booked on suspicion of being under the influence of the drug; two rings valued together at more than $30,000 go missing.

Drug Arrests at Supermarket

Two people were arrested on Aug. 5 for allegedly being under the influence of heroin at the Albertsons on Agoura Road in Calabasas. One of the suspects was booked on suspicion of possessing the illegal drug, according to a deputy's report.

A deputy noticed Jordan Kochman, 28, and Krista Claxon, 23, of Newbury Park behaving unusually while trying on sunglasses near the store’s east entrance, the report read.

The deputy said that Kochman had difficulty maintaining his balance, took awkward steps and often missed when he attempted to grab something. Claxton was standing with an unsteady gait and needed to hold onto a display rack to maintain her balance, the report read.

The deputy then approached both suspects and noticed that they exhibited constricted pupils and droopy eyelids. Kochman was asked to estimate 30 seconds in his mind, but ended up counting to 45, authorities said. Claxton was incoherent when she spoke, deputies said.

Claxton said she had smoked heroin just a few hours earlier when asked by deputies whether she was under the influence of a controlled substance, the report read.

Kochman said he had smoked heroin a few days prior, deputies said.

A search of Kochman turned up a black wallet that contained identification and credit cards that did not belong to him, authorities said. The suspect told deputies that he was holding the wallet for a friend.

After searching the wallet, deputies found small pieces of tin foil that were burnt and stained with residue as well as a baggie that contained a brown substance resembling heroin, according to the deputy’s report.

Kochman was booked on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance and illegal possession of a controlled substance. Claxton was arrested for allegedly being under the influence of the drug.

Deputies later phoned the man whose name was on the identification and credit cards found on Kochman. The man said his wallet was removed from his car and he did not know either of the suspects, according to a deputy's report.

Deputies then booked Kochman for knowingly receiving stolen property.

Wedding rings stolen

A pair of wedding rings with a combined value of $33,000 was stolen from a residence in the 24000 block of Paseo Primario, according to deputies.

The burglary happened sometime between noon on July 3 and Aug. 3, a deputy’s report read.

The victim, who hid the rings in a paper bag that was placed inside a hamper, said she believes the burglar could have been her ex-husband who still had the house keys.

Deputies noted that there were no signs of forced entry. An investigation is ongoing.

One of the rings was worth $22,000 and was made of three gold bands welded together with a 2-karat diamond centerstone surrounded by square diamonds. The other ring, valued at $10,000, was made of white gold with square diamonds set around the entire outside diameter of the ring.

More than $4,000 worth of camera equipment and other belongings were stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 4000 block of Black Bird Way, according to a deputy’s report.

The vehicle burglary happened sometime between 3 p.m. on Aug. 7 and 9 a.m. on Aug. 8, authorities said.
