Calabasas Crime Rate Is Down

Crime–with the exception of burglary–has decreased in Calabasas in the first two months of 2011 compared to the same time period in 2010, the Sheriff's Department's new statistics show.

The new crime statistics for Los Angeles County for January–February 2011 are in, courtesy of the Sheriff's Department, and the figures for the county and for Calabasas show a drop when compared to the first two months of 2010.

In Calabasas, the Part 1 (serious) crime rate is down by 5.3 percent for the same time period last year, but up 11.4 percent compared to five years ago, in 2006. In real terms, this simply means that three more Part 1 crimes were reported this year in January and February than in the first two months of 2006.

By comparison, in L.A. County, the serious violent crimes that were reported dropped by 11.79 percent, and Part 1 crimes against property dropped by 7.1 percent, compared to the same time period in 2010.  Overall, Part 1 crimes countywide saw a drop of 7.8 percent.

In Calabasas, two robberies have been reported already this year. The rate has doubled since 2010, where only one robbery was reported in the first two months of the year. There were only three robberies in the city during the whole of 2010.

Aggrevated assault figures in the community are the same this year as last, but are down by 64.6 percent on 2006. Burglary is down 45.5 percent this year, and down 36.9 percent since 2006. Grand theft auto is also down; there has been just one this year, as opposed to three during January and February 2010.

No arson was reported in Calabasas in the first two months of this or last year, and no homicides or forcible rapes have been reported. This was also case in 2010; one rape was reported by year end 2010.
