With warmer temperatures rapidly approaching, local residents will be hitting beaches, hiking trails and parks to enjoy the warm summer days.

Local law enforcement warns those driving to their destinations to protect themselves against car burglars by never leaving personal property in plain view inside their vehicles.

Capt. Joe Stephen had this advice about securing possessions: Lock your doors. Roll up your windows. Don’t leave items in plain sight. Park your vehicle in well-lit areas. Install audible alarms. When home, park inside your garage or in the driveway in front of your home.

“Our greatest defense against these crimes is the watchful eyes of citizens who pay close attention to their community,” Stephen said.
