Shoplifted Champagne; Vehicle Burglaries

Man arrested on suspicion of stealing two champagne bottles; one recent car burglary occurred at a local burger joint.

Alleged Gelson’s shoplifter arrested

A North Hollywood man was arrested April 6 on suspicion of shoplifting two bottles of champagne from in Calabasas, authorities said.

Gelson’s store manager said he witnessed 28-year-old Grigor Khachataryan exit the store while holding his stomach, according to deputies.

The manager said he followed Khachataryan to see if he was in pain.

The suspect walked to his vehicle, a 2007 black Honda Accord, and was followed by the manager and another employee.

Khacataryan then crouched down, continuing to hold onto his stomach. The manager asked Khacataryan if he needed any help, but the suspect declined.

The store manager walked to where the suspect was crouching and noticed he was concealing two bottles of Veuve Clicquote Ponsardine champagne, each valued at $45.99

Khacataryan was detained by the store manager without incident, authorities said.

The suspect reportedly told the deputy who arrived on the scene that he shoplifted the champagne for his girlfriend.

Khacataryan added that he came to the Calabasas Gelson’s because it looked like a good place to steal from, deputies said.

Unlocked vehicle burglarized

A Persian passport and a pair of Ray Ban glasses were stolen from a vehicle parked at an apartment complex in the 4700 block of Park Granada on April 4, authorities said.

The victim said he parked his car in his assigned parking space at around 7 p.m. on April 4 and added that he may have forgotten to lock it.

Upon returning to his vehicle the following morning at 8:30 a.m., he noticed that his $300 Persian passport and a $275 pair of sunglasses were burglarized from the center console.

Vehicle burglary at Red Robin

About $300 in U.S. currency and nearly $100 in gift cards were stolen from a vehicle that was parked at on April 1, deputies said.

The vehicle burglary occurred sometime between noon and 5 p.m., authorities said.

Authorities did not observe any signs of forced entry to the vehicle and the victim said she could not remember if she locked the doors, according to a police statement.

A $40 purse was also among the burglarized belongings.
