Alleged Serial Burglar Arrested

A parolee is arrested on suspicion of stealing purses from parked cars.

A Newbury Park man was arrested Friday on suspicion of a parole violation and stealing purses from parked cars, Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station detectives said.

Troyan Duss, who served a third of a 28-year sentence for burglaries and drug possession, was arrested around 7 a.m. at the residence of a female acquaintance near Las Virgenes Road and Thousand Oaks Boulevard, said Detective Sgt. Michael Holland.

Detectives were serving a no-bail arrest warrant issued for Duss, who allegedly failed to comply with several conditions of his parole, including failing to report to his parole officer, Holland said.

Detectives also received tips that Duss was using illegal substances and committing burglaries, and obtained surveillance footage of the suspect using stolen credit cards at various stores, Holland said.

Following his arrest, a search of Duss' rental car turned up 50 items of stolen property, according to a statement from the station.

Heroin and methamphetamine were both also found in his possession and his rental car, Holland said.

"Mr. Duss had been breaking into vehicles at trailhead parking areas stealing hiker’s purses, than using the victims' credit cards to buy gift cards, make purchases to support his drug addiction," the statement reading.

Nine burglary victims from Calabasas, Agoura Hills, West Hills, Tarzana and other surrounding communities have been identified, he added.
