A witness alerted authorities after spotting three people jumping the backyard fence of a home in the 26000 block of Cold Springs Street, deputies said.

The first deputy to arrive near the residence reported seeing three men in the backyard who then ran behind the home. One of the men then stepped out of the house, said the deputy, who then reportedly radioed for backup.

Later, another officer reported that he was detaining three men on Lost Hills Road, who were later confirmed to match the description of the three suspects, according to a police statement.

Vannora reportedly told deputies that they were dropped off in the area so they could walk to Castaic Lake, which is 40 miles from Calabasas. The witness who reported the suspects said he saw three men being dropped off in front of the residence from an older, dark-navy Toyota Camry, according to a police statement.

Vannora and Hong both denied being in the backyard of the Cold Springs Street residence, and Bounsom refused to say why he was in the backyard, deputies said.

It was during questioning that all three suspects admitted to being members of the Asian Boyz gang out of Long Beach, according to a police statement.

The suspects’ conflicting statements and other factors led to their arrest, deputies said.

Man booked for allegedly having lock-picking tools

A Sherman Oaks man was arrested on June 4 for allegedly possessing lock-picking tools that are typically only to be used by locksmiths and auto repossessors, according to a police report.

Jerry Asher, 51, was driving southbound on Las Virgenes Road in a black pickup truck when a patrolling deputy pulled him over for not having a rearview mirror, it was reported.

The deputy ran a check of Asher’s license plate and noted that his vehicle registration was out of date, a police report read. After the deputy reportedly smelled marijuana coming from the truck, Asher and a passenger were ordered out of the vehicle while a search was conducted.

Deputies found a black nylon pouch that contained numerous lock picks, some homemade, some professionally manufactured, according to a police report.

A black cotton beanie and a flashlight were also found, deputies said.

Asher was arrested after the deputy concluded that the lock-picking tools are “commonly used by burglary suspects to break into vehicles and structures,” the report said.
