Update: 101 Freeway Re-Opens, Man Airlifted to Hospital

Two eastbound lanes between Las Virgenes and Parkway Calabasas are open again following an accident.

Update: 6:15 p.m.

A 33-year-old Ventura man was airlifted to UCLA Medical Center after he reportedly either jumped or fell out of his car on the eastbound Ventura (101) Freeway early Monday afternoon, according to Officer Jennifer Cassidy of the California Highway Patrol. His condition is not known.

According to reports, after the man left his Ford F150 pickup truck just west of Mureau Road, he landed in the center divider, then got up and ran across all lanes. He was then struck by a tractor trailer in the number 4 lane, Cassidy said.

A SigAlert for lanes 2, 3 and 4 on the eastbound 101 was issued at 1:54 p.m. and were finally cleared at 4:52 p.m.

Cassidy said investigators were trying to determine if the accident was the result of a suicide attempt or drug use.

Update: 3:45 p.m.

The CHP has called a SigAlert on the eastbound Ventura (101) Freeway west of Mureau Road in the Calabasas area on a report of a traffic collision at 1:13 p.m. Although the CHP could not immediately confirm it, a witness told CNS he witnessed a man jumping from the rear of a pickup truck and being gravely injured. Two lanes remain closed.

Update 3 p.m.

The number 3 and 4 lanes of the eastbound 101 Freeway between Las Virgenes Road and Parkway Calabasas in Calabasas are closed due to an accident earlier Monday afternoon.

The accident was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 1:28 p.m., according to Officer Cassidy of the CHP.

The only information currently available is that the accident involved a white Ford pick-up truck running up an embankment, Cassidy said.
