Junior, a big sweetheart

Junior is listed as a 4-year old Lab/German Shepherd mix who was relinquished two months ago to the Agoura Shelter after only two hours with his adopter (he was larger than the landlord would allow). Our volunteers had met him at an adoption event, and observed his gentle nature and ease with lots of dogs and people around. When he came to us, we were pleased to have such a cool dog for adoption. Once he got settled with us, we noticed he had a cough and had our vet look him over. It turned out to be pneumonia and he was quickly and successfully treated and returned to the shelter. At that point we noticed a distinct limp and upon examination it was determined that he required ACL surgery on his left rear leg. Thanks to Malibu Pet Companions, the expense of this medical care was covered and last week Junior got the “all clear” to be let loose in our yards and go for walks with our volunteers, with no restrictions. Junior is a big boy, weighing in at about 89 lbs. He lost weight while with us, which is very good for his joints. He is strong, but gentle, and sometimes thinks he’s a lapdog – if you sit on the ground he will come around and lay across your lap. He knows “sit” and responds well to his name. He loves treats and takes them gently. He’s been introduced to the cats in our Cat Land, and he just ignored them all. He’s played well with other dogs, at the adoption event and once he was discharged by the doctors. He seems to want to be the alpha dog, so we would strongly suggest a dog-to-dog introduction before a potential adopter brought him home to another dog. To check on Junior’s availability (occasionally pets have already been adopted by time this is published) you can contact the Shelter at 818-991-0071, or online at http://animalcare.lacounty.gov referencing dog ID A4549947. The Agoura Shelter is at 29525 Agoura Road, Agoura Hills, 91301.
