Summer has flown by and I’m not ready for it to end. I’ll miss the carefree mornings lounging in our pajamas and the fun filled afternoons spent out on the town.
Most of all I’ll miss the lack of routine and carefree spirit that permeates my life come June to August.
So before the kids head back-to-school, get your adventure on and soak up the last few days of summer. Here's a summer bucket list for you and your family to close the season off with a bang:
Hop on a boat and visit Channel Islands National Park.
Take the family horseback riding.
Go out for triple scoop ice cream cones.
Have a pretend vacation. Spin a globe and select a country randomly. Then head to the library and read up on the traditions of this new land. Find out how children there spend their free time. Then try out a new restaurant from your country’s cuisine.
Go fishing.
Get a telescope and look at the moon.
Make an obstacle course in the back yard.
Go ice-skating.
Turn off the television, computers and cell phones, and enjoy an afternoon playing board games, freeze tag or hide and seek with the kids.
Take the subway downtown and make a day of it. Then check out the Japanese Garden at the Kyoto Grand Hotel.
Go see a silent movie.
Tie dye t-shirts
Make sushi.
Go sailing.
Ride the steamer trains at Griffith Park (only open on Sundays 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.).
Head north to the Kern River and go white water rafting for the afternoon.
Make pizza from scratch.
Pitch a tent in the backyard and roast marshmallows.
Go to the zoo.
Help your kids write and direct a play.
