Each week, we'll give you the info on the five best family activities or events for the week. You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

1. Hot Air Balloon Festival

  • Where/When: Santa Paula, Friday (from 5-11 p.m.) Saturday (from 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.) and Sunday (from 5:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
  • Why go: Don't miss this truly beautiful and amazing event. The 4th annual Citrus Classic Balloon Festival will provide the whole family with a day and evening of fun. Food, wine, kids' activities and hundreds of hot are balloons will surely delight all of your senses.
  • Pricing: Ticket prices vary and can be purchased here.
  • Ideal for: Families with children of all ages.

  • Where/When: , Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
  • Why go: Tell your kids to put their game faces on and get their fingers nimble, so they can compete against their peers in this exciting event. Participants will play each other in various video games to earn the position of top dog.
  • Pricing: Free.
  • Ideal for: Families with elementary and middle school aged children.

  • Why go: Have a child who's heading to college in the fall? The Dorm Life Cooking Program is a great way to help them acclimate to their new living situation. Attendees will learn how to prepare savvy and quick meals when they venture into college life.

  • Ideal for: Families with children heading to college.

4. A Day in the Park for Kim's Cause

  • Where/When: Oak Canyon Community Park in Oak Park, Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Why go: A local mother, diagnosed with stage-4 lung cancer, is in need, and you can help. Bring the family for an afternoon of fashion, food and fun, all to benefit Kim Liebe, the loving single mom of four-year-old Christian.
  • Pricing: Free.
  • Ideal for: Families with children of all ages.

  • Where/When: , Tuesday evenings at 6:00 p.m.
  • Why go: If your kids like puppets and jugglers, this event is for you. Eat an early dinner then stop by the kids' club to see colorful puppets on parade and witness the talents of Julien the Juggler.
  • Pricing: Free.
  • Ideal for: Families with younger children.
