Michael Ansara, Played Kang on 'Star Trek,' Dies at 91

The veteran actor died at his home in Calabasas on July 31.

Veteran actor Michael Ansara, known for his role as Kang the Klingon commander on the Star Trek series, has died, according to Deadline.com.

Ansara, 91, died at his home in Calabasas, on July 31.

At 4:30 p.m. Friday, flowers were to be placed on his star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame. 

The Syrian-born actor began in  TV Westerns like ABC’s Broken Arrow and NBC’s Law of the Plainsman in the 1950s, according to Deadline.com. He appeared 1961’s Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea, The Comancheros and 1965’s The Greatest Story Ever Told

Ansara first appeared as Kang on a 1968 episode of the original Star Trek. He reprised the role on spinoffs Deep Space Nine in 1994 and Voyager in 1996.


Other TV credits include I Dream Of Jeannie with former spouse Barbra Eden, Hawaii Five-OMurder, She Wrote and the Centennial miniseries.

He was married to Eden from 1958 through 1974. They had one child, a son named Matthew, who died of a drug overdose in 2001.

Ansara married actress Beverly Kushida in 1977. He retired from acting in 2001.
