Famed Sci-Fi Writer Dies at Calabasas Home

Richard Matheson, the prolific author and screenwriter, has died at the age of 87.

Famed science-fiction writer Richard Matheson died of natural causes at his Calabasas home Sunday at the age of 87, according to breitbart.com.

During his 60-year career, Matheson wrote more than 25 novels and nearly 100 short stories, plus dozens of screenplays for TV and film. 

The prolific writer's stories that were made into films include I Am Legend, Somewhere in Time, What Dreams May Come among many others.

On his Facebook page, Matheson's son, Richard Christian Matheson wrote:

As monumental as he is as a writer, he was every bit that as a husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was my hero and my best friend and I loved him deeply. I will miss him forever. I know we all will.
