Week in Review: Fire and a Police Lawsuit

An eight-acre blaze burned Calabasas this week and the mother of missing Mitrice Richardson sues the LA County Sheriff's Department.

Fire season officially began in Calabasas this week as an eight-acre blaze burned Las Virgenes Municipal Water District (LVMWD) land on Friday.

Also, Latice Sutton, the mother of Mitrice Richardson, sued the LA County Sheriff's Department for negligence and wrongful death in relation to the disappearance of her 24-year-old daughter last year.

MONDAY

THURSDAY

The day began with a slideshow of American Youth Flag Football League (AYFFL) games played on Wednesday at A.E. Wright Middle School.

We posted a story on with 7.3 percent of its residents being smokers.

We also posted a preview piece on Thursday evening's Planning Commission meeting, with a focus on a pair of cell phone towers on LVMWD Property that were to be voted on by commissioners.

Calabasas High's baseball team lost to Valencia 6-5 on Wednesday in a Valley Invitational League game.

FRIDAY

The last work day of the week began with a piece on another loss dealt to the Coyotes baseball team, this time by Mission Hills Alemany on Thursday during a Valley Invitational League Game. The Coyotes lost 3-2.

That was followed by our list of some local businesses offering specials on the 4th of July.

In breaking news, a fire broke out on LVMWD property shortly after noon. The brusher, accidentally set by a weed whip, burned eight acres and was extinguished after 3 p.m. No injuries or structural damage was reported.

We wrapped things up with . Thousands of hungry visitors stood in line for hours to try and grab a bite.
