The weekly real estate column by Tracey Thomas reported that escrows in Calabasas had risen in May but not necessarily because more homes were sold in that time period.

Thomas said many escrows were short sales, meaning they were deals that were pending for some time due to various circumstances.

We wrapped the day up by reporting on girl scouts honored Tuesday by the Environmental Commission for their volunteer efforts toward improving the local environment.

THURSDAY

We started the day with a preview piece about a lecture today at King Gillette Ranch on why biodiversity is important to Calabasas and its neighboring areas.

We also posted our slideshow roundup of Agoura Pony baseball games played June 2.

A story was also posted about a budget study session held Wednesday at City Hall during which some department heads talked about cuts they may have to make for the next fiscal year.

Chief Financial Officer Gary Lysik projected the city would have about $20.39 million set aside for 2010-11 expenditures, about $2 million less than the current fiscal year.

The Calabasas City Council will vote on a final version of the 2010-11 budget  June 23.
