Week in Review

Residents walk to fight cancer and local athletes face some tough losses.

Locals once again proved how much they're willing to do to fight cancer as they participated last weekend in the Relay for Life at A.E. Wright Middle School.

In sports, it was a tough week for local athletes, as Viewpoint School's baseball, softball and golf teams as well as Calabasas High School's golf team were all dealt big losses in the CIF playoffs.

Here's a look at those stories and everything else that went down in town from May 17 -22.

MONDAY

We published a story about Calabasas schools once again earning high scores in the Academic Performance Index (API) report.

We posted a feature about Jordan Coleman, a Calabasas High School senior who will play basketball for the University of Hawaii in the fall.

We also posted a video about the annual Relay for Life event benefiting the American Cancer Society.

TUESDAY

Alex Angard and Walker Huddy, the top golfers at Viewpoint School and Calabasas High, respectively, both suffered tough losses Monday at the CIF Northern Golf Regional.

The weekly real estate column by Tracey Thomas spotlighted a home once owned by former reality TV couple Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey.

Thomas also wrote about how the Calabasas real estate market fared in April.

We also covered a town hall that Las Virgenes Supt. Donald Zimring held with local parents Monday at Round Meadow Elementary School.

Zimring spent most of the evening talking about why the furlough days were needed and what can be done to help solve the district's budget problems.

WEDNESDAY

A piece on Viewpoint School's softball team analyzed its upcoming games that week, including a matchup against St. Monica.

We put up a story on A.C. Stelle Middle School adding 170 new books to its library.

We also published our biweekly police blotter that summarized notable crimes that occurred in the past few weeks.

The theft of assault rifles and handguns from a home topped this week's blotter.

THURSDAY

We published a story about a jogathon at Calabasas High organized by local youth track club the Calabasas Cheetahs.

The Cheetahs hoped to raise money to help fix the track they share with the school.

The Calabasas Patch editor posted a note saying that he would be off duty for most of the day to spend time volunteering at the Calabasas Library.

We also posted a preview piece about a town hall on state government reform that state Sen. Fran Pavley (D-Agoura Hills) would host Friday in Tarzana.

FRIDAY

We posted an updated list of child care activities available to parents for the upcoming furlough days.

We reported on Viewpoint's tough softball playoff loss to St. Monica on Thursday.

We posted a story about some residents who expressed their grievances to the Communications and Technology Commission about local cable providers Time Warner and Charter.

SATURDAY

The Viewpoint Patriots lost a first-round baseball matchup against Crossroads in the CIF playoffs.

We also posted our coverage of a town hall discussion on state government reform that Pavley led.

We posted a story about how non-credentialed employees within Las Virgenes Unified will work only two days during the furlough week as a result of a 5-0 vote by the Board of Education on Friday.
