Week in Review

Spousal abuse charges won't be filed against a retired NFL player and a high school junior comes up with a unique way to get a prom date.

In the latest Corey Dillon chapter, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said Thursday that it would not file criminal charges against the former NFL player, who had been arrested May 2 on suspicion of abusing his wife.

Also, one high school junior found a clever way to ask a girl to his prom thanks to a little help from a local frozen yogurt shop.

MONDAY

We published a story about how Sacramento is working on a bill to ban metal baseball bats in high schools statewide and replace them with wood bats. The story included comments on the issue from Coyotes baseball coach Ed Edsdall and some of his players.

We posted a video about the monthly paint and used oil round up that the city of Calabasas sponsors each month in the parking lot behind the library.

E! reality star and Calabasas resident Alexis Neiers pleaded no contest to accusations that she burglarized actor Orlando Bloom's home last year. The 18-year-old was sentenced to six months in jail.

We also published a list of child care activities that have been organized for Las Virgenes Unified School District students during furlough days May 24-27.

TUESDAY

The Calabasas High golf team won the CIF Northern Division championship  Monday at Soule Park in Ojai.

Also in golf, Viewpoint School's Alex Angard led the Patriots with a score of 75 at the CIF Central divisional.

Our real estate columnist, Tracey Thomas, posted a piece spotlighting Calabasas' Mulwood neighborhood and how it's one of the most walkable areas in town.

We also did a story about how only a third of the city's septic tank systems have been inspected  despite a looming May 14 deadline to have them checked out.

WEDNESDAY

We started the day off with a preview of Viewpoint School's baseball team's Friday matchup against Buckley for the Liberty League championship.

We also did a feature on New Community Jewish High School junior Adam Soriano and the quirky way he asked a girl to prom. Soriano replaced a yogurt flavor sign at Menchie's with his own that read "Will you go to prom with me?"

We also did a feature on Dalton Saberhagen, a first baseman for the Coyotes, and how he's getting a chance to help round out the season after missing many games due to an injured shoulder.

The Las Virgenes Unified School District was presented with the results of a survey that had asked local voters if they would be in favor of a parcel tax to help support district campuses. About two-thirds of those surveyed said they would vote in favor of a $114 annual parcel tax.

THURSDAY

The Coyote baseball team's season came to an end Wednesday with an 8-2 loss to Newbury Park High School.

Film producer and resident Harel Goldstein was sentenced Wednesday to four years in federal prison for forging contracts to secure a $35-million loan from Comerica Bank to finance a series of movies.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said it would not file spousal abuse charges against former NFL running back Corey Dillon because of a lack of evidence.

We also spotlighted the Wednesday Book Club for 3rd- to 6th-graders at the Calabasas Library. This week the girls discussed "The Phantom Tollbooth."

FRIDAY

The Calabasas High golf team finished 17th at the CIF finals Thursday.

We also published a photo gallery of Calabasas High seniors having a relaxing outing at De Anza Park as part of a series of activity days planned for the graduating class.

We also did a preview piece on the annual Relay for Life, which began May 15.

The Viewpoint School's girls softball team won its season finisher Thursday against the Providence Pioneers.

SATURDAY

A magnitude 3.9 earthquake Friday that struck several miles away from Port Hueneme was felt in Calabasas, but no damage or injuries were reported.

We also brought you coverage of the first ever science fair held at Bay Laurel Elementary School on Thursday.
