Hawk Snatches Shanna Moakler's Dog

A bird of prey flies off with a dog that belonged to the ex-wife of Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker.

A dog belonging to former Miss USA and Playboy model Shanna Moakler was snatched by a hawk outside of her Calabasas home this week, CBS reports.

She took to Twitter on Monday, saying that she had let her pets out to go to the bathroom when the bird of prey swooped in and flew away with one of her Chihuahuas while injuring the other.

"Not gonna lie, feel like hunting hawks today … don’t feel bad about it either,” she tweeted Wednesday.

Moakler, ex-wife of Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker, said the dog that wasn't taken may have lost an eye.

“I just hope people with small dogs will start taking precautions with their pets outside and try to protect them from predators. I hope people just remember not to take things for granted as you never know when they can be gone, both people and fur babies,” she told Hollyscoop.

The city of Calabasas adopted a earlier this year that encourages homeowners to keep their pets indoors to prevent them from being taken by wild animals.

Sorry for your loss Shanna. In answer to the question, Hawks, as wells as Owls, Coyotes, Rattlesnakes, large Cats, and others can all be deadly to small animals. We had all of the above when living in West Los Angeles so you can imagine what's lurking in Calabasas! To protect your animals, you have to understand the exponential increase in the chances for a deadly encounter when you get into mountainous areas...

Sorry for her loss, but THIS is news??? Hawks and other predators will eat easy prey (ie small pets). I am sorry that she didnt take proper precautions for its safety, it is not the fault of the hawk/ owl/ coyote/ bobcat or snake!

Ed of Calabasas Highlands My sympathy and empathy. Lost a cat to a coyote years ago and have a hawk landing on my back deck looking for my other cat. My cat survived a coyote encounter a few weeks ago...there goes another one of those nine lives. I feel your pain and I would like to have the right to fight back, but if I did I'd be hauled off to jail as these predators have more rights than us citizens do!
