Fire Danger Expected Tuesday in Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area

A high pressure over the Great Basin will bring gusty winds and elevated fire danger this week to the mountains near Calabasas.

UPDATE at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1: The fire weather watch has been canceled for the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. Onshore winds are expected to cool off high temperatures. However, there will continue to be elevated fire danger.

ORIGINAL POST: A fire weather watch will go into effect Tuesday in the mountains around Calabasas due to forecasted gusty winds, hot temperatures around 100 degrees and low humidity.

The fire weather watch, which means there is a risk of elevated fire danger, is expected to go into effect late Tuesday morning through Tuesday afternoon in the Santa Monica National Recreation Area, according to the National Weather Service.

Nearby, a red flag warning will be in effect until 6 p.m Tuesday for the mountains in Los Angeles and Ventura counties and the Santa Clarita Valley, where winds could gust up to 30 mph.

Temperatures could top 100 degrees in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area and nearby Calabasas, while they could reach well into the 90s in Malibu, according to forecasters.
