Class of 2012 Graduation Ceremony at Calabasas High

Caps were tossed and diplomas issued in the hour-and-a-half ceremony punctuated by humorous and poignant speeches.

On Wednesday night, 21 valedictorians, 14 salutatorians and more than 400 other graduating seniors received their diplomas on the football field of the Keith Ritchie Stadium at .

Stands were packed by family and friends who looked on as both humorous and poignant speeches were given by senior class president Janae Sieder, senior speaker Jessy Morner Ritt, valedictorian Eric Brownrout and salutatorian Michael Lewis.

Calabasas High principal C.J. Foss welcomed the graduates with a brief but heartfelt speech, calling them "21st century learners with mad communication skills."

Foss urged them to practice low-tech skills of reflection, appreciation and planning ahead.

"You are amazing," the principal said, choking up on her final words.

The senior choir performed the national anthem and God Only Knows by the Beach Boys prior to the issuance of diplomas.
