5 Things You Need to Know Today: Oct. 8

Calabasas Day Hikers meet, farmers market and a benefit concert for a car crash victim.

  1. Join the Calabasas Day Hikers as they set out on their latest trek. This week, the hiking club will tread a 3-mile segment of the Juan de Anza Trail. Meet up is at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the end of Calabasas Road (1.5 miles west of the Parkway Calabasas intersection).
  2. It's Saturday once again and that means it's time for the weekly Calabasas Farmers Market. Stop by Calabasas Road just west of El Canon Avenue between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. and check out dozens of vendors selling everything from fruits and veggies to meat and desserts.
  3. A benefit concert is planned for Gilani Taylor, a 28-year-old Oxnard woman who was on the 101 Freeway at Las Virgenes Road on Oct. 1. The event is being held at the nightclub Crave in Ventura at 9 p.m. 281 W. Main St., Ventura, 93001.
  4. is hosting a 1-mile bird walk on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. Use the temporary entrance 200 yards past the main gate. Meet in the main parking lot.
  5. Today will be sunny with a high of 85, according to the National Weather Service.
